You know, she had no obligation to follow you just because you asked her to. Clearly you favour being a Twitter whore (twhore?), whereas she seems to follow only people whom she knows or who interest her. So what? That doesn’t deserve your venom.

And, by the way, if someone twittered me with a ‘follow me so I can DM you’ message, I’d think two things:

What does this person want to say that can’t be said in a public forum? Why the need for DM when I don’t know them from a bar of soap?

Calling YOU a social outcast??? It’s a heck of a lot nicer than calling you a snotty B….. (but no I wasn’t calling YOU anything. People spend so much time telling people how to use twitter, that they’re using it wrong, that they just don’t get it…. why bother hon? Why not let people have their own experience, and you have yours. How does a “controversial” blog post like this one do anything except show people that you call people names when they don’t play by your rules. Is that the kind of blog traffic that grows a business?? If it is, I’m perfectly willing to try out calling you names. I’ll even make a blog post calling you names. I have my doubts that it will bring me all I want in 2009, and I can’t see how it helps people.

At any rate, if your were writing this to create a controversial blog post then yo shuldn’t be expecting to have everyone agree with you.

Hey I bet if I go over to her blog.. (if I had a clue who she was) I wouldn’t see a post about you demanding that she follow you. I am also willing to bet, based on the responses here, that she gets a heck of a lot more traffic. *shrug…. something seems to be working, LOL

Bottom line I had something I wanted to say this person in private and currently the only way to do that is on Twitter is if the person is following you

I politely asked her to click on a button so I could communicate with her and she refused. Instead she wanted me to jump through a bunch of hoops

I could have just ignored her but I figured this would be a good controversial blog post and obviously i was right he he

I say this… why get yourself all twisted up in knots, resorting to name calling and swearing. Why does anyone feel a snese of entitlement over whether someone follows them or not? If someone sends me a note saying “follow me I want to tell you something” my first thought is “why didn’t you just tell me openly”. I probably would have followed you on my own without the “Prime Directive” (i’m not the person Jacko is talking about BTW)

To Jack i say… maybe YOU need to learn how to communicate with others instead of expecting them to learn how to communicate with you. To SOME of your posters I say… “get a bar of soap and clea out your mouth”, who needs all the swear words. To everyone I say “Grow Up Y’all”. Who says Twitter is the same thing for everyone. I unfollow anyone who drops the F-bomb in my twitter stream. If I see it, you use it a LOT since I am hardly ever there.

I don’t follow people who demand I do. I don’t much care who likes it either! LOL (I wonder how many social cast-outs are complaining on some blog post about it.)

I know I am a bit late to comment here but I figured someone might read it! I agree the person could have used a bit more tact when replying! That said, I don’t think they did anything wrong per say. The first thing I thought of when reading the post was the possibility this person simply had a system… If you have multiple companies, multiple social networks, multiple emails, multiple etc., is it far-fetched to create a system any requests you receive? Is it possible this person was just having a bad day? Is it possible this person just needs some advice on how to respond?

Here is another thought regarding the post…

“But SnottyBeotch, we could have made beautiful music together. We could have done JV’s together. I could have been a major connection for you …”
But Jack, if you would of just used my web form! Sure I come off rude sometimes, sure I might need to learn how to reply to requests. But what if you would have just filled out the web form? I could have been your guest blogger Rock Star! I could have been a huge JV for you! All you had to do was fill out the web form…

Either way lot’s of lessons here and I truly appreciate the post and all the comments!

Your example of the sky being blue is a fact. Technical issues are facts. A social interaction is completely different.

I knew there was a reason I HIRE technical people to work FOR ME rather than being one of them.

Good that you didn’t end up giving her some exposure in the long run anyway. You would have only found out about how much of a Beotch she was after it was too late!
